Tree of Life: Walrus Jaw Bone

This contemporary design is my interpretation of a tree of life. This motif is woven through a multitude of cultures and is interpreted in a number of different ways. I was inspired by the idea of all life being interwoven; it reflects the connections that run between all things. This design is carved from an old old piece of Walrus jaw bone and it has a rich deep patina. The color comes from the minerals in the soil where the bone has lain for hundreds of years; this patina will deepen as the wearer's oil seeps into the material.
