Papatuanuku

Papatuanuku is the Maori name for mother earth. This contemporary design shows the roots of earth swirling under a Manaia guardian form, which is a stylized bird. There is also a three-fingered hand form linking the earth to the bird form.  The overall shape of this carving represents a spiritual guardian reaching down from the heavens to draw life from the earth. This planet is a vibrant entity that needs to be respected and cherished if she is going to support us moving forward.
