The fishhook is one of the most prevalent symbols used in Maori carving. It is a talisman for strength and prosperity; and is also a good symbol for anyone with an affinity for water. The fishhook is often given as a mark of friendship and respect. It is also traditional to give this carving to someone who is embarking on a journey.
This carving is created using "cured" beef bone that has great color and texture. The color will differ from the photo as the material is highly varied! I will post a new picture of the current stock when the design sells.
