Awa, The River – “Fossil” Walrus Ivory

This design was inspired while mountain biking in the Columbia River gorge in Washington State. The wind was sweeping up the gorge as the river flowed with an immense sense of energy and power. Rivers are powerful entities for the Maori, and they have tremendous mana (spirit). This energy and spirit is often a healing one.

This carving is made from the inner dentin of an antique walrus ivory tusk; and can be worn with either side facing out.
